Apocalypse Megabattle

Great fun over the weekend at the Apocalypse Megabattle Dallas Adeptus North Texas. The event was part of the worldwide Apocalypse Megabattle coordinated through apocalypse40K.com.

It was my first Apocalypse game and I will say it was fun. It took me a while to warp my mind around the idea of Apocalypse. As far as I can see the idea of Apocalypse 40k is to play big battles without caring who wins. The last part is important because there is no real balance or tactics. This is all about huge numbers of big models. I brought 3,500 points in steel legion and wasn't even a factor in this game. Don't get me wrong I have a blast! Once I realized I should stop trying to think andfocus on playing my big models, the game got a lot more fun.

Here was a big thing for me in the game. Painted models. It was soo much more fun playing painted models against painted models. You can see from the pictures. The game looked great. I only had the camera on my cell phone and wished I had my full sized camera. The game was amazingly visual. You loose that playing unpainted models.

Tanks vs, Orks

I am a tank nut. On Saturday I threw down against one of my favorite Ork players. Three Chimeras, four Leman Russ, a Vanquisher, a Laser Destroyer and a Baneblade. Seven AV14 and three AV12 facing covering four feet of game board. It was quickly dubbed 'the parking lot' fight. We both made a couple of tactical, but the in the end Ork suffer heavy losses.

This is only the second time I have gotten to field the Baneblade and the first time it has gotten to fire a shot (*%#ing railguns). The first time it fired the 10" template onto an Ork Battle Wagon was a fun moment. The players on the two other tables stopped to come over a watch it land head on target. It turned the battle wagon into a smoking crater of scrap. At that moment the victory conditions for the Ork became kill the Baneblade which they achieved 2 turns later.

The game was a learning experience for both me and the Ork player. Me because, I need to work on my tank tactics. The Ork player because rockets are not the answer for AV14 tanks and on mass they are hard to get in behind. Now I want to buy a Stormsword... I am the only player with a super heavy and now I want two. :)

The great tank project of 2010

I admit it, I bought too many tanks along time ago. More tanks than I could build at the time. I had a box of gray shame. The box included a Forgedworld Baneblade, Forgeworld Laser Destroyer, vanquisher and Executioner, and finally a straight Leman Russ. All had no tracks, no primer, no paint and in most cases not full assembled. Somewhere in my piles of old sprues I found ALL the parts to put them together. Amazing.

After a weekend of late night painting they are all painted up to table quality. Here is a picture of them primed... oh how I wish I had not put the hull weapons on so they could have been magnetized.
